The Bull Inn - A Destination

The Bull is an old traditional country inn set on the banks of the River Ure in the picturesque village of West Tanfield which lies just north of the ancient Cathedral City of Ripon. Restored in 1699, parts of the inn are formed from what was once the ferryman’s cottage and the artist JMW Turner drew scenes of the nearby ancient Marmion Tower on one of his many tours of Yorkshire.

Located at the gateway to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, The area around West Tanfield is steeped in history and is an ideal base from which to tour the area. For walkers interested in exploring the countryside, routes such as the Ripon Rowel, Yoredale Way, the Staveley Circle and the Way of the Roses are close by. For family entertainment. Lightwater Valley is just a short distance away. The Bull Inn has a small private dining room-cum-family room and children are welcome to eat there.

Well behaved dogs are welcome and might even be offered a biscuit or two from the jar on the bar.

A range of home-cooked dishes which feature local produce, is offered at lunch times and evenings.

Free WiFi available for all our patron, just ask at the bar.

The Bull Inn Menu

The menu at The Bull consists of lots of hearty pub food classics as well as some more innovative dishes. Our traditional Steak and Ale Pie is a firm favourite but there are lighter dishes, warm salads and snacks for those with a smaller appetite. We have a children’s menu and homemade desserts. We pride ourselves in having pretty much ‘something for everyone’. Any special dietary requirements can be catered for but we do appreciate a little notice.

Our menu is available every day, don't forget to check the blackboard for daily specials.

Look out for special themed weeks when we vary the menu even more – tapas, seafood, game weeks.

Traditional Sunday Roast Beef served until it's gone, every Sunday
